Taco seasoning is a MUST-HAVE around my house! We regularly have tacos, but love to mix up what we put in them. The only static part of our taco routine is the seasoning blend we use.
There was a point I used the pre-made taco pouches you can find at the store – after all, who doesn’t love convenience?? Then…. I realized how incredibly simple it was to blend your own. Other benefits include saving money (those pouches really add up!), customizing your particular flavor/spiciness desires and cutting out all the “fluff” that is also in those (stabilizers, fillers, anti-caking agents…).
After naming all the benefits, why not make your own? Seems like a no-brainer! Well, you just need a recipe!
We’ve experimented with some other blends, but this is now our go-to. We mix this up in a large batch, keep it in the spice drawer and just spoon out how much we need when cooking. It’s great! I love that you can vary the amount used – handy for sensitive palates like kids or elderly.
This keeps well for long periods of time, stored in an airtight, dark and cool place. (No, not the groovy kind of cool, I mean the not-hot type of cool!)
We just used this last night on chicken, and we were trying out some new tortillas! I’ll be writing about the tortillas soon too, so keep your eye out 🙂  You can see the tacos HERE on my Instagram account (BTW – IG is where I post pics of my family too, so if you wanna get to know me better check it out 🙂 )
Wanna know the best part?? Of course you do 🙂  ((drum roll please)) This is the best on mushrooms! Yep – mushrooms! We love doing veggie tacos too, which normally means mushroom in place of meat. Just saute the mushrooms then add seasoning, just like you would with meat. It’s amazing! Trust me here, and just try it 🙂
Special note: we prefer things on the spicier side, and our kids don’t mind spicy. My recommendation is to start with 1/2 the chili powder and possibly omit the red pepper flakes until you know how spicy you want this. You can always ADD more kick (spiciness) later!
If you try this let me know! I’d love to hear how you like it (or if you don’t). Â Reader feedback is always welcome and appreciated!
